Alex is admitted to practice law in both New Zealand and Australia and is the principal owner of MMP Lawyers.
He provides expert legal advice on property, company, commercial, trust, and financial law, including securities and financial arrangements. Alex represents a diverse clientele, including finance companies, successful startups, horticulturalists, farmers, award-winning builders, developers, and small to medium business owners.
With over 15 years of experience, Alex has had the opportunity to manage many large scale commercial and property transactions throughout the Nelson region and across New Zealand.
Outside of work, Alex and his wife stay busy with their four children. They enjoy spending time on the water and making the most of family life with friends.
Graeme Downing was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1983. After practicing law in Wellington, London and Auckland, he has practiced in Nelson since 1994 and became a Partner of McFadden McMeeken Phillips in 1997.
Graeme retired as a practicing lawyer on 1 July 2024 and remains part time at MMP Lawyers as a researcher. Graeme's experience was mainly in litigation, mediation and arbitration. His areas of practice included contract and commercial disputes, employment, estate, relationship property, building disputes, land disputes, company disputes, and unjust enrichment/constructive trust claims.
Graeme was a committee member of the Nelson District Law Society for over 10 years and is a past President of that Society.
Sam graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Canterbury in 2014 and has been practicing law in the Tasman and Marlborough region ever since.
Sam joined MMP as an associate in April of 2021 and is experienced in all matters relating to commercial and property law including commercial, residential and rural transactions, financing, subdivisions, leases, trusts and succession planning.
Sam is solution focused and enjoys helping his clients achieve their personal and commercial goals.
William is a practical legal problem solver. William has a wide practice in commercial, property and litigation, with a focus on commercial and residential sales and purchases, general contract, relationship property, employment and estate asset planning.
William graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Politics) from the University of Otago, and continued his post-graduate legal education with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Applied Law from the Australian College of Law, with a focus on Legal Project Management and Insurance Disputes.
Callum holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University of Wellington. He joined MMP as a Senior Solicitor in May of 2023.
Callum’s main area of practice is civil litigation and dispute resolution, including contract and commercial disputes, employment, estate, relationship property, building disputes, land disputes, company disputes, and unjust enrichment/constructive trust claims.
Before moving here to Nelson in 2021, Callum began his legal career in 2019 as a law clerk for a King’s Counsel in Wellington.
Nigel started practicing law in Motueka and built up his loyal cliental from there.
Nigel has a rich history in this region and is very accomplished in his work in and around Tasman. He has extensive experience dealing with Resource Management, Town Planning, and Council but will endeavor to help his clients wherever he can.
Nigel is passionate about the growth of our region and is committed to its success.
Sandy worked as a legal executive prior to raising her family, then worked in small business management before joining MMP in 2017. She has since completed her Diploma as a Registered Legal Executive.
Sandy is a hard worker and team player. She manages all of our residential property transactions ensuring they run smoothly from the outset through to settlement and completion.
Clare has been working in law for over 30 years and is a diligent hardworking member of the MMP team.
Clare specialises in trusts and conveyancing, but through her experience has the ability to take on an array of different tasks.
Paula is originally from Murchison and started working at MMP in 1997, as Practice Manager she plays a very important part in the inner workings and daily running of the firm.
Paula manages all accounts and ensures that MMP is operating efficiently.
In her spare time Paula has her hands full with her grandchildren.
Rocque is a dedicated Legal Secretary who provides essential support across a broad range of legal matters. With strong organisational skills and a thorough understanding of legal processes, she assists in the preparation of documents, client communication, and case management.
Known for her practical solutions and professional approach, Rocque plays an integral part in helping deliver efficient and effective legal services.
Candida is a vital member of the MMP team, working closely with Nigel McFadden across all areas of his legal practice. She plays a key role in coordinating the day-to-day management of his workload and client matters.
Her strong organisational skills and a focus on productivity ensures that operations run efficiently and cohesively.
Senna has recently finished her Bachelor of Laws degree at Otago University and will be admitted to the bar in the coming year.
At present she supports our solicitors with comprehensive research, document drafting, and case management. She has an extensive understanding of New Zealand’s legal system and strong attention to detail.
Olivia started with MMP in 2024 and has developed her legal career substantially in that time.
She is a hardworking diligent member of the firm and uses her excellent administrative skills to manage scheduling, trust account processing, client communication, and office coordination with efficiency and professionalism.
